| Sundance is a piece of how the “Real Florida” used to be: Tall Pine Trees, Sun-Dappled' Trails, Neighbors waving and smiling to one another. It is also the home of Ray Gavens, the gifted luthier and genial Master of “Dragon Strings”. Most days find Ray in this beautiful peaceful spot creating and refurbishing the instruments he loves. Reading music at the age seven, Ray started playing a wide variety of instruments in his teens: Guitars, Violins, Trombone and accordion. His love of music drew him to play with many groups and to pursue his knowledge of Jazz, Bluegrass, Folk and Classical genres. |

| In 1980 Ray realized that no one could repair his rosewood and mahogany treasures as well as he could himself. In 1982 he began to build stringed instruments for his own enjoyment. Other musicians soon encouraged him to bring his special touch and unique skill to a larger audience. His talent for detail and his enthusiasm continue to be his trademark as he pursues his love in the recently enlarged studio which is the home of “Dragon Strings”. Ray continues to enjoy playing, singing and teaching music students, Both adults and children. His first love and greatest gift however, is crafting beautiful woods and inlays to create truly extraordinary instruments. Visit Ray at Dragon Strings and plan to meet him in person at one of the many folk festivals where he displays his instruments |
